Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Spring Drive UFA Ice Forest "Violet Dawn" SLGB005
The ice forest-inspired dial captures the essence of a frosty purple dawn.
At the 2025 Geneva Watches & Wonders Exhibition, Grand Seiko unveiled the new Spring Drive UFA caliber, offering an impressive annual accuracy of ±20 seconds, marking the latest advancement in its decades-long pursuit of high precision in watchmaking. Now, this movement is incorporated into a new limited edition watch crafted from Ever Brilliant Steel, a stainless steel alloy renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance and vibrant color. The new SLGB005 Ice Forest "Violet Dawn" embodies Grand Seiko's commitment to watchmaking that balances performance with practicality for everyday wear. However, the most striking feature of this new watch is undoubtedly its precision.
Ever since the Caliber 3180, which powered the first Grand Seiko watch, the pursuit of high precision has been the cornerstone of Grand Seiko watchmaking. Released in 1960, this caliber was the first in Japan to meet the then-recognized Swiss chronometer standards. Since then, Grand Seiko has prioritized precision. In 1966, it established the Grand Seiko Standard, employing a testing regimen even more stringent than the Swiss chronometer standard. In 1969, it created the VFA (Very Fine Adjusted) system, achieving an accuracy of one minute per month. In 2004, it launched the 9R Spring Drive, achieving an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month, the culmination of nearly three decades of development. Subsequently, in 2020, Grand Seiko introduced the Spring Drive 9RA series, boasting an overall accuracy of ±10 seconds per month and a five-day power reserve.
